Sometimes I really worry about the people that I work with. They seem to be really good guys with everything under control in their lives until you look closer. Suddenly, you realize that these supposed professionals are actually alcoholics with terrible eating habits and no idea how to live a functional life. At the same time, they report to work everyday and give other people advice about functional indoor living. You see, I work at a local heating, cooling, and air quality control dealership in a challenging part of town. We are always repairing busted heating and cooling systems, replacing broken air conditioning units, and upgrading ancient furnaces. I enjoy my work and I don’t have any problem with the indoor air handling control industry, itself. However, the other certified heating, cooling, and ventilation professionals definitely challenged me at times. Sometimes we have to work together on large residential HVAC repairs or installation jobs. These are the times that I think my co-workers might be incapable of maintaining their own lives, let alone high-quality air handling devices. Recently we were on a routine installation job when the brand new heating and cooling system seemed to immediately be on the fritz. When we adjusted the thermostat up to the temperature went down. When we turned the temperature down the furnace started up. We spent hours trying to troubleshoot the brand new furnace and air conditioning unit to figure out what was going wrong. Eventually, I realized the thermostat wiring had been connected backwards. All along, it wasn’t the HVAC devices that were faulty… It was my co-worker.

When I was getting out of high school I really had no idea what I was going to do with my life.

I wound up attending a four-year college and getting a degree in communications… Which effectively means that I got a useless degree which cost me a lot of money. After I graduated from college I realized I had no idea what I was actually going to do for work. That’s when my dad stepped in and helped me to get a position at the local trade school working in the office. I send out the weekly and monthly communications to our trade school pupils. I let them know about our newest class offerings, including our brand new heating, cooling, and ventilation repair program. We’re extremely excited about this HVAC certification program because it will turn out new heating and cooling technicians and under 18 months. They will have all the skills that they need for working in the indoor air quality control industry immediately upon graduation from the heating, cooling, and ventilation certification program. Not only is it awesome working at the trade school and using my communication degree to inform our students about important program changes, but working at the trade school has a lot of perks. Thanks to this new HVAC certification program my own is central heating and cooling devices have been taken care of like never before. I’ve received several brand new air handling devices thanks to the HVAC repair professor. I’ve also allowed the students to perform my routine heating and cooling services as practice. When my dad said I could work at the trade school I never thought it would make life so comfortable.

I really hate the idea in our culture that women are supposed to be sweet, docile, and subservient.

I’m really tired of people telling me that I am too direct and bossy for being a woman.

I am also sick of anyone telling me that I need to smile in order for them to be comfortable. How I look is how I look. How I act as how I act. My gender has absolutely nothing to do with that. That’s why I was really blown away and impressed by the heating and cooling technician who performed my most recent central HVAC maintenance repair service. I had never seen a female heating, cooling, and air quality control specialist before in my life. On the morning that the HVAC work truck pulled into my driveway and I saw a beautiful woman hop out I was very excited to see what kind of work she would do on my central air conditioning system and forced air furnace. I wanted to know another woman who was strong and skilled, even if my line of work has nothing to do with indoor air handling devices. When she arrived at the door the lady HVAC worker had a younger man with her. She explained that he was the newest HVAC intern at the heating and cooling repair dealership. She was doing her best to demonstrate proper residential heating, cooling, and ventilation repair services to him. I could tell that the young man was very disrespectful to his HVAC mentor. I heard him giving herself in the basement as they inspected the furnace. Shortly thereafter, I heard the lady HVAC technician let loose on a diss young hooligan. The HVAC intern immediately stormed up the steps and pouted in the driveway while my lady HVAC tech fixed the furnace. Good for her.

I think that there has been a rapidly growing trend in our society to discuss our mental health issues.

• I, for one, I’m extremely glad that we’re finally opening up about the mental difficulties that many of us face on a daily basis.

I spent most of my life hiding my depression and anxiety spells from my peers because they were not acceptable to discuss in public. I’ve always felt like it was unfair that I couldn’t tell people how I really was feeling in order to explain some of my strange actions. For instance, I am extremely socially anxious and I prefer to be alone as much as possible. Sometimes this offends people and I can’t tell them about my mental disorder. Recently, I’ve been very glad that every industry has been making a bigger effort for remote, online interactions. This is true all the way down to my heating, cooling, and ventilation specialists. Obviously, when you call an HVAC repair shop you are going to have a heating and cooling technician arrive at your house. You will have to interact with them as they navigate to your central heating and cooling systems looking for broken parts and inefficiencies. However, it turns out that my local HVAC repair shop has been instituting new ways to schedule your routine HVAC maintenance appointments and emergency repair services. I can get online and request heating and cooling appointments without speaking to a single human on the phone. Besides that, my HVAC technician will perform the heating and cooling services requested without requiring social interactions on the job. Today, I can schedule, pay, and review my HVAC repairs entirely online. And that’s a huge help for my mental and respiratory health.

I’m always reading professional articles online about getting new jobs in establishing a comfortable work environment. It turns out, your employees psychology is one of the most important factors in job satisfaction and therefore job performance. If you want your employees to be highly productive, reliable, and enthusiastic you really need to worry about the mental environment of your business. Additionally, it turns out that you should put a great deal of effort into the heating, cooling, and ventilation system at your office. I have been seeing increasing numbers of articles describing the effects of toxic indoor air. If your employees are reporting to an office with low-quality indoor air circulation you can expect that they will be less enthusiastic to do their jobs each day. I found that there is a correlation between dirty central heating and cooling systems and reports of low worker satisfaction. Not only do people want to have clean air circulating around them so they can breathe easily and concentrate fully, but the thermostat settings that you use will also play a critical role in employee retention. If you want to keep your trained employees happy you need to have some kind of democratic thermostat process. You can’t set the indoor air temperature too high or too cold, or else you will have uncomfortable employees who spend more time complaining about the thermostat controls than working on their computers. They can set their own thermostat settings and you won’t have to be so concerned about professional HVAC repairs.

Several years ago I jumped out of the 9-5 workforce and decided I was going back to school.

It had been a long time since I studied anything or tried to fill my brain with new specialized knowledge.

I was really nervous to be back in a learning environment with all of these young bucks as competition. You see, I decided I was going to become a certified heating, cooling, and air quality control specialist rather late in life. I didn’t want to sit at a desk anymore and the idea of becoming a residential HVAC technician was quite attractive. It would only take two years to obtain my heating and cooling certification at which point I could work for any local air quality control dealership for reliable income. I easily passed all of my central heating, cooling, and ventilation repair courses and graduated at the top of my class from the local trade school. I was extremely happy with this development until I got into the heating and cooling industry itself. I quickly realized that I didn’t enjoy working for my HVAC repair shop. I decided to open my own HVAC dealership so I could be the boss of these young heating and cooling Hooligans. The only problem was, I needed help advertising my new HVAC business. That’s when I called in my sister and her friends. I had t-shirts made up with our HVAC logo plastered right across the chest. My younger sister and her friends have been wearing my HVAC merchandise for several weeks now… And business has been booming. Maybe I’m not the youngest HVAC worker in town, but I am wise with age.

The older I get, the more competitive everything seems to be with my dad when it comes to routine household responsibilities and basic handy knowledge.

It seems like he is rather threatened by my experiences as I get older and he wants to prove that he is still the man of the house.

The funny thing is, he’s the only one in this competition because I really don’t care what anyone thinks about my personal habits for home appliance knowledge. I just go about living my life and doing what I think is best for me. About 2 years ago, I thought that it was best if I installed a high-quality air purification device to work in tandem with my central heating and cooling system. For several years, I have been suffering from increasing allergies and poor respiratory health. I simply wanted to improve the quality of my indoor air so that I could stop relying so heavily on allergy medications and breathe more freely in my own home. At the time, my dad took personal offense to my air purification purchase. He kept insisting that air filters work just fine, as long as you weren’t too much of a dumbass to change them. We went back and forth with this silly air purification issue every time I spoke to him. Well, years later my dad now desperately wants to purchase an air purification system in the light of the viral outbreak. Unfortunately, he’s having a hell of a time finding anywhere to purchase one of the highly demanded air quality control devices. I’m not going to sink to his level, but I would like to tell him I told you so.

To be honest with you, it’s not often that I feel like I’m very popular. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a bit of an outsider to everyone that I’ve known. It’s difficult for me to connect with other people and I prefer to just spend my time alone as a result. That’s why I’ll never forget the single occasion when I was the queen of the neighborhood party. I didn’t even mean for this to occur, but I think that I would have been voted most popular at the event on that day. It all started when I was going about my normal business as a heating, cooling, and ventilation technician for a large air quality control company downtown. We normally perform residential routine service appointments and diagnostic services for local heating and cooling appointments. It’s not often that I encounter more than one homeowner at a time during my usual HVAC service appointment. That’s why, I was rather surprised and when I pulled up to the address that we were provided and found a whole house full of humans there. Apparently, they were in the middle of a large party and their central cooling system broke down. For a few hours everybody at the party was messing with the thermostat and the central AC unit before they finally gave up and called a professional for emergency help. That’s when I arrived. As I inspected the AC unit and diagnosed their repair problem, a crowd of humans was gathered around. When the AC unit kicked back into gear and air cold air started passing from the vents, the crowd erupted into a pause. They wouldn’t let me go back to the HVAC shop and insisted on making me the guest of honor at the party that night.

Sometimes I just have to look at my boyfriend and shake my head.

Thank God he’s pretty, because he’s not necessarily the brightest bulb in the box.

I love him nevertheless, but there are times that I have to question what he’s up to. This was definitely the case when we first moved in together and I realized that he had never operated a central HVAC system before in his life. Let me be clear, I wouldn’t expect him to be a professional HVAC technician or anything like that. I mean that he truly didn’t know how a thermostat controls the indoor air temperature. Apparently, his entire life his parents have been in charge of the indoor air temperature to the extent that he was unaware of a thermostat purpose. When we moved in together, he kept wandering around and saying that he didn’t understand why the indoor air felt so bad. I would simply shrug and tell him to go ahead and adjust it if he thought it was an uncomfortable temperature. After several days of this back and forth, I wasn’t understanding why he was so frustrated with me. Finally he exploded and told me that he didn’t understand how he was supposed to change the indoor air temperature when it was so hot and humid outside. No matter how many windows he opened or how many fans he turned on the indoor air temperature only got warmer. That’s when I looked him dead in the eye and asked if he understood what a thermostat was. The sheer confusion on his face said it all. From that day forward, I taught him how a thermostat works and even how to program it. I have a lot of questions for his mom when I meet the in-laws.

Sometimes I have to believe that there is a higher power out there, pulling some strings and making sure that we end up exactly where we’re supposed to be.

• I have had too many strange happenings in my life to call it circumstance or coincidence.

I happen to believe that the Universe has a plan for everybody, and it creates the situations that we need. I know, that sounds like a lot of flowery woo-woo talk… But it even applies things as mundane as my central heating and cooling system. You see, when I was first moving into town I knew that I wanted to find a place with a semi new air conditioning system. I had heard awful stories about the heat and humidity in that region and I definitely didn’t want to be operating a busted air conditioning unit all summer long. I knew how expensive my energy bills would be if I didn’t find a rental with a high-quality air conditioning system already installed. I made sure to get the AC unit checked out by a professional HVAC technician before I even signed the lease. That’s why I was blown away a few weeks later when I was hanging out at home and the air conditioning randomly stopped blowing through my vents. Clearly, there was an issue with the AC unit out of nowhere. Needless to say, I was pretty livid about the air conditioning breakdown. That is, until I walked out back and tried to inspect the AC unit myself. Tucked behind the massive HVAC equipment was an unexpected surprise that I wouldn’t have found otherwise. A litter of 10 puppies had been abandoned behind my central AC unit. As soon as I brought them indoors, my AC started working again. If it wasn’t for my spontaneous air conditioning breakdown, who knows what would have happened to those sweet babies.

When people complain about being on call I have to say that I don’t understand what the problem is.

Maybe I’m just an extremely flexible and helpful human being.

It’s hard for me to say so, because I can’t comprehend anybody needing so much alone time that they would rather turn off their phone then go help another human.That’s why, I found the perfect career for myself when I became an emergency heating and cooling technician. When I was first attending my HVAC certification classes at the local trade school, I remember them talking about how stressful it could be if you wound up taking overnight shifts for emergency HVAC repair services. At the time, I was actually terrified of these emergency appointments because I didn’t have the confidence in my own heating and cooling repairs bills. After a few years on the job as a residential HVAC technician, however, I felt like I was prepared to take on the difficult night shift. I became our residential on call air quality control specialist for all emergency appointments and service repairs. I have to say, this is my favorite job of all times. All night, I wait for people to need me, so I never feel bored or alone. I don’t mind occupying myself and waiting for the emergency repair calls to come in. Most of the time, I have the evening to myself without interruption. Every once in a while when somebody does need an emergency HVAC repair, I’m even happier. Then, I get to be the hero who fixes their HVAC system in their darkest hour.

Sometimes I’m amazed by the people my age in the stupid things that they do.

Clearly, a lot of them have not had to support themselves in the past or be very mindful of their own finances.

A lot of them haven’t figured out very basic things like how to grocery shop, how to take care of indoor appliances, or how to keep mold and mildew from completely overthrowing your indoor space. This was the case when it came to my recent roommate who completely destroyed our apartment while I was gone thanks to muggy indoor air and ignorance of overhead ventilation fans. I guess that my roommate had started listening to a podcast where they recommended opening your windows for a certain amount of time every day, even in the middle of a hot and humid summer. They said it was critical to get fresh air into your home, and enjoy natural ventilation for the sake of your respiratory house. Of course, my stupid roommate believes that this was true and began opening our windows even though the air conditioning system was running. At the same time, she would often go take a shower to start her day. Apparently, besides having no understanding of how central AC systems work, she also didn’t know how overhead ventilation fans work in a bathroom. She never turned on the powerful bathroom ventilation system while she was taking a hot and steamy shower in our hot and steamy apartment. As a result, she managed to foster the growth of a field of dark mildew and mold. When I got back into town after two weeks visiting my parents, I found a biomedical disaster waiting for me. Not to mention the terrible energy bill that she created.
