Last winter, I decided to cook salmon for breakfast.
The salmon was especially fishy smelling plus tasting.
The smell from our meal spread through the entire house. That night, when both of us noticed the scent was quite strong in our dining room. The following day, the smell continued to linger in every room; I tried vacuuming, lighting scented candles plus setting out boxes of baking soda! Unfortunately, with the outdoor temperature in the teens, it simply wasn’t possible to open the windows plus take fortune of fresh air. I finally did some research plus realized that the smell had gotten into the ductwork. When there is an accumulation of dust plus other debris concealed inside the ducts, it can absorb smells plus spread them throughout the living space every time the furnace starts up. This is an indication of problems with airflow through the ductwork plus concerns with indoor air pollen levels. It was absolutely likely that there was dust, dander, harmful bacteria plus potentially mold inside the ducts. I reached out to a local HVAC dealer that specializes in duct cleaning. After testing plus inspecting the duct system, the worker confirmed that cleaning was necessary. The cleaning process took numerous hours to complete but created no mess or disfigure. The improvement was instantly apparent… Not only was the unpleasant smell eliminated but our up-to-date home felt much more comfortable. The temperature from one room to another is now more consistent. I don’t need to vacuum or dust as often plus our weekly heating bills are significantly lower, because the furnace doesn’t need to work as hard to distribute heat, it should be more reliable.
