I panicked when my HVAC system stopped working.
I contacted the local HVAC company right away and requested an emergency appointment.
They had an HVAC professional at my door within an hour. I told him how my HVAC system had suddenly stopped working, and he had a list of questions for me. He asked me when the last time I’d had the HVAC system serviced and I couldn’t think of the date. I’d never had it serviced by a professional before, and I didn’t know when the previous owners of the house had. Then, the HVAC professional asked me how old the HVAC system was. Again, I couldn’t give him an answer because I didn’t know. Next, he asked me when the air filter was last changed. This I did know! I told him it was 6 months ago, right before the cooler weather arrived and I switched from my air conditioner to my furnace. He looked at me in silence for a few moments and I felt like a complete failure. I knew he was judging me for my lack of HVAC servicing, but I never thought I’d be in this predicament. I showed him where everything was located and he got to work. He worked on my HVAC system for one hour before finding me and telling me the bad news. My HVAC system was completely dead and it would cost more to repair it than to buy a new HVAC system. He gave me a recommendation on where to get a new one and told me that if I didn’t want this to happen again, I’d need to take care of the equipment this time. I felt so embarrassed.
