On our first workplace outside of the university, I had more than one primary responsibility.
I worked in a “big box” store, but on any given afternoon, I would either bring shopping carts in from the corrals to the store, or I would work in the condo, house & garden section.
Whenever 1 of our fellow co-workers would complain about their work, I would remind them that, at the undoubtedly least, we had such a powerful a/c to cool them as they worked at their cash registers or stocked the shelves in the stores. On the other hand, I was almost always perspiring our butt off! I especially enjoyed how anytime one of the workers in our department called out, someone who normally worked in the weather conditions-controlled part of the store would be sent to assist me, and they would say it was the worst thing in the world. Strangely, I was never asked to work in the store to cover someone else who called out. What a delight that would be to be able to work next to the a/c for just once! So many times, I would clear the parking lot of carts, nearly by myself, and then take a brief moment to rest just inside the building to take advantage of the a/c. One of the assistant supervisors said that I was slacking off, but I was just trying to cool off! When things were legit busy, and the carts were piling up despite our best efforts, those same supervisors would sarcastically me offer a “team building” exercise in which they would go out and help us… Like that would ever happen!
