A couple of weeks ago, I was working the weekend shift at the HVAC business where I work.
Each weekend someone different has to work the weekend shift.
You have to work a schedule on Saturday and Sundays are for emergencies. You also have to answer the phone when it rings and possibly work in the middle of the night. I haven’t had very many calls on my weekends, but a couple of weeks ago the chef and owner of a four-star restaurant called with an HVAC problem. The guy isn’t even a commercial customer of ours, but he needed someone fast and I happened to answer the phone on the first ring. The owner of the commercial business offered to pay twice the amount if I could fix the HVAC problem that night. He did not want to shut down dinner service at 9:00 p.m. on a Saturday with 60 customers seated in the restaurant. I told the guy that I could be there in 20 minutes and I was there in 15. I entered the building and went directly to the kitchen where the HVAC problem was located. The issue turned out to be low refrigerant in the machine. It was actually an easy fix after I located the problem. The owner of the restaurant was so delighted and pleased that he offered to make me something special. I told the chef that my favorite thing to eat was seafood and he whipped me up a 5 course meal that was fit for a king or a queen.
