Costs for air conditioning recently increased in August.
In other words, the price for the same thermostat settings has nearly doubled.
I then realized it was time to begin the process of replacing the HVAC equipment. Actually, as the heat pump started to fail last spring, the HVAC technician spent some extra time going over the symptoms I need to watch out for. The highest item on the list was rising air conditioning costs. Every spring, we always have our air conditioners tuned up. It comes after the yearly heating maintenance we receive in the fall and is a part of the HVAC service plan. We discussed that when the HVAC technician arrived to service the heat pump’s HVAC system last spring. The HVAC expert could see that the heat pump’s efficiency was dwindling. I, therefore, made sure to look out for the warning signs. I made a call after August to arrange for the HVAC contractor to visit and begin the HVAC upgrade. I learned a lot about new HVAC technology and the most recent developments in residential HVAC during that excellent meeting. But I also discovered how crucial it is to size the HVAC system to the precise air volume of a house. When I asked if I could get a bigger HVAC unit for more power, I learned a lesson that I hadn’t really thought about before. At that point, the HVAC contractor clarified that the HVAC system must match the house’s air volume. If it’s too small, the heat pump will have to run constantly to keep up with demand. When it is too big, the heat pump will cycle off and on far too frequently, reducing its efficiency and reducing its lifespan.
