A couple months ago, I noticed that there was something wrong with our furnace. I got a few gas bills that seemed way higher than usual. At that point, I started paying a little more attention to how long we let the heat run and where we set the temperature. Despite being conservative with my temperature settings, I noticed that the fan was running most of the time. After another high gas bill, I decided to call a heating and cooling technician to come take a look at the furnace. When he looked at the furnace, the heating and cooling technician did not detect any problem with the furnace itself. Finally, he realized that the problem was with the thermostat. It turns out that the thermostat was malfunctioning, which caused the furnace to work harder than it needed to. Ultimately, the heating and cooling technician said that it was time for me to replace the thermostat. He recommended that I go with a smart thermostat, as it will allow me to save energy and money. After a few months of overpaying on the gas bill, I was excited for the prospect of saving some cash. He installed the smart thermostat that same day. Immediately, I saw a huge decrease in our energy use and I was thrilled when I saw how low our next gas bill was.
