As a young one, I lived in a city where every one of us used a radiator for heating.

And I can easily remember how hot it used to be inside my residence, to the point where I used to open my window in my room just to get some relief… This triggered a condition as well as that is nosebleeds that I still suffer from these days. Thankfully, I live in a state where the Winter seasons aren’t serious, so I don’t need to use my central heating machine at all… I don’t appreciate my beach residence being too hot, as well as that’s because I am prone to getting severe nosebleeds. If I remain in the heat for too long in the frosty months, it’s guaranteed that I will get them. Therefore, I would rather be safe than sorry, and while I am unable to control the weather outside, at least, I have full control of the temperature inside my property. It has been a few years since I have gotten a nose bleed and I would love to keep it that way… Even if it means skipping on using my central heating equipment during the winter weeks.

Speaking of my wife, she grew up in a very noisy and hot and humid environment when it came to her sleep

I hate how sensitive I am when it comes to getting a good night’s rest. The primary thing that bugs me is when there’s too much noise around the house. If I want to get to sleep earlier in the evening so that I’ll actually be able to wake up early and be ready for work bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, I have to contend with my wife and kids making all sorts of noise. My go-to fix for this is cranking my fan up to high to block out all the racket with white noise. It also keeps me nice and cool so that I won’t get sweaty and toss and turn at night. My wife is well aware that I prefer a nice, cool room when I sleep, and though I love her, I know it’s a struggle for her, because she gets cold ridiculously easily! She’s not above turning the thermostat up every now and then to suit her personal comfort level, but I end up waking up on such nights sweating! Every now and then I’ll walk over to the thermostat, and sure enough, she’ll have turned it up about 3° above what I set it to before I went to bed. It’s not that I want to be sensitive to the temperature and the noise level in my home. Speaking of my wife, she grew up in a very noisy and hot and humid environment when it came to her sleep. Thus, though she doesn’t necessarily sleep all that long, she has the uncanny ability to completely go unconscious for at least five or six hours a night. She sleeps like a rock! I truly wish I had such an ability, but instead, I am in desperate need of turning down the thermostat and cranking up that fan to be comfortable!

I am so grateful for how cozy my vehicle is throughout the entire year. You have to understand that I commute back and forth to work and this time is about 2 hours out of my day five or six times a week. I live in a part of the country that has extreme weather throughout the year. I have a truck that is sturdy and reliable and has all sorts of bells and whistles. But I often think to myself that the most enjoyable thing about this truck is that it has such excellent heating and air conditioning. In the summer, the sun can be glaring and oppressive even as early as 7:00 in the morning as I’m heading to work! At that point, I simply put my sunglasses on and put down the little sunblockers on the roof of my truck and blast the air conditioning. It feels so nice to and from work that it is often a shock to have to step out of such a cool and refreshing truck into a hot and baking parking lot or even my own driveway at the end of the day. I’m also quite comfortable in the winter as I drive around in my vehicle. My heater is amazing. I always find myself feeling quite thankful when I take a look at the temperature on the thermostat on my dashboard. Just yesterday, it read a whopping 19° and there was snow whipping against my windshield. Despite all this, my truck was so warm that if you were blind you wouldn’t even suspect that it was winter outside! That’s the kind of quality vehicle I will always insist on buying!

Recently, my wife and I were taking a road trip across a few states, heading north to try and find the closest area that had snow. It was during December break. I am a teacher, and as you would expect, I get two weeks plus a few days off during December and early January. My wife at this time was simply a homemaker, so she had no work obligations. Thus, living in such a hot and humid climate as we were, we decided to go seek out snow. We drove north, and were quite delighted at how the temperature continued to drop and drop as we went on our merry way, seeking out snowfall. Now, for anyone that’s already well used to snow and all of the annoyances that it can bring, we may seem quite silly to you. However, you have to understand that for those that are not used to a winter wonderland at all, seeing snow can be quite magical. Anyway, my car’s heater was working very well in keeping us nice and toasty during our drive. I distinctly remember that it took us about 400 miles before we finally had snow flurries falling on our car. We were ecstatic, but we kept driving. There were a couple towns in particular that we had set our sights on should a sufficient amount of snowfall start accumulating. Sure enough, as the sun began to set during our first day of travel, we figured we would go ahead and stop at a hotel nearby and rest for the time being. It was magical to step out of the heated car into the light dusting of snow on the ground. We crunched through the half inch or so of snow and headed into a comfortable and warm lodge that we would spend the night in. The room was snug and warm and the heating system felt fantastic! We would continue our journey the following morning, but for now, we rested peacefully in the warmth and comfort of the hotel room.

Summer camp was a real joy for me as a kid.

• In fact, I continued going to the same summer camp associated with my church even as I became a teenager.

Furthermore, I became a camp counselor with the same youth camp once I became an adult. Long story short, I have come to really enjoy this youth camp over the years. That being said, I have noticed a few changes that are quite comical to me. For one, when I was a kid and a teenager, youth camp was more of a wilderness experience than it is now. Let me explain. Back when I used to go to youth camp, we didn’t even have central heating and air conditioning in any of the buildings except for one. That one building was what we call the tabernacle. This was the main meeting place in which we would have our morning and evening services. This was still a Christian camp, after all. I guess they really wanted us to be nice and cool and comfortable while we received Biblical instruction! That being said, virtually every other building on the entire campsite did not have any central heating or air conditioning. It was pretty much a given that each camper would need to bring a fan if they really wanted any sort of climate control within the cabins that we resided in during our stay. That being said, there was a primitive form of ventilation within the cabins. Fast forward about 15 years to when I started becoming a camp counselor at this place, and wouldn’t you know it, Central heating and air was indeed installed in these cabins and a couple other buildings on the campsite! These younger kids sure did have it made compared to the way things were when I was a kid. That being said, I didn’t complain all that much because I was benefiting as a camp counselor as well!

• I was recently discussing to some other people that had purchased some heating and AC products from the local HVAC company what they thought of them, everybody had gotten a variety of different things I knew a couple people that just picked up some air filters, one person that picked up a ductless mini split ac, one person that was giving UV light filter to try.

When I was asked what I got I told him that I got a window air conditioning system and they seemed surprised because they told me that they had always heard that window air conditioning systems don’t work really well. Then another person tried to say that they had a window AC system for 2 years and it was the worst air conditioning system I had ever had. This really surprised me because I told him that he had been working great for me and I haven’t had any issues with it at all. I told him that I think in some ways it might actually be better than my central AC system. I told him that I have my window air conditioning system in my window and how it runs every single night to bring in all the cool air. I live in a hot climate and so it gets really heated sometimes and I need that window AC to let in all that cool air if I wanted to be sweating to death. It’s impossible to get any kind of sleep if you’re sweating and hot.
