Last summer, I had a long list of complaints with my air conditioner.

Although the system continued to operate, it was running for much longer cycles and failing to keep up with demand.

There was very inconsistent temperature from one room to another. It was no longer handling humidity or living up to our comfort expectations. Plus, the operation was noisy and produced a musty odor and significant amount of dust. My monthly energy bills were much higher than normal. I finally scheduled air conditioner repair from a local HVAC contractor. The technician first inspected all of the cooling components. He found a small amount of dust accumulation within the inner workings but nothing serious. He then tested the ductwork and found that approximately twenty-five percent of the conditioned air was escaping through imperfections. There were cracks at the seams and small holes throughout the system. Because the ductwork is largely installed behind the walls, ceilings and in the crawl space, I had no idea how this problem could be fixed without major construction and mess. The technician explained the Aeroseal duct sealing process. First, the supply and return vents are blocked off. A machine is hooked up to the ductwork to then send highly pressurized air through the system. This air contains adhesive, non-toxic, polymer particles and cling to the edges of the gaps and holes as the air leaks out. The particles cling to each other as well, steadily forming an airtight seal. The procedure took several hours. Afterward, the technician again tested the duct performance and verified the successful results. The Aeroseal service is guaranteed for ten years. It made a huge improvement in the operation of the air conditioner and helped to lower my utility costs.

My house was constructed in the mid-eighteen hundreds.

It covers over three thousand square feet and is divided into a lot of smaller rooms. There are high ceilings and big windows. We have done some remodeling and opened up the floor plan of the kitchen, dining room and living room. While the house is outfitted with ductwork, the system doesn’t include the perfect number of supply and return vents to manage consistent comfort in every room. The kitchen in particular tended to be extremely chilly during the winter and quite overheated during the summer. For a while, I compensated with electric baseboard heaters and a window air conditioner. I was not happy with how the portable heating and cooling equipment detracted from aesthetics. The heaters took up floor space and the cooling unit eliminated our view from the window. Plus, they failed to keep up with demand on especially cold winter nights or hot summer days. About two years ago, I finally invested into a ductless mini split. The system consists of an outdoor unit that operates so quietly that I’m never certain it’s running and an especially compact indoor air handler. The air handler is mounted up high on the wall, has a slim profile and draws no unwanted attention. It works by moving existing heat between the indoors and outdoors, reversing the flow of refrigerant as needed to provide both heating and cooling capacity. The air handler features an independent thermostat that allows adjustment through a remote or an app on my phone. I’m able to raise or lower room temperature, direct airflow, determine fan speed and switch between heating and cooling. I can target the kitchen without affecting the rest of the house.

My wife and I this past weekend went to the local fair.

We had a blast with some of the rides and the food was well ok.

Everything at a fair is super expensive these days and I don’t really like to spend a lot of money. The only thing I blew my money on was 10 bucks throwing balls at a target for this clown sitting over a water tank to see him fall in. I only did it because he was talking a lot of smack about my wife. I can handle a lot of things but if anything is ever said about my wife I will lose my mind. After a few tosses of the balls I had I eventually knocked him into the water. Success but not really. In general I know he still won because he got my money and that is what the clowns do to get you frustrated. Other than the clown we went to some vendors and signed up for a new central air installation drawing. We tried to do a few other drawings like painting and a vacation trip. It was pretty awesome because we won the central air conditioning and the HVAC company called us the next day to let us know. I think I was more excited than my wife though as I knew our heating and cooling system was a little outdated and this will save us a ton of money! Next week an HVAC technician is supposed to come out and look at what we have and schedule an appointment after to start the updates. I will always take a risk on free things and this one definitely worked out.

It’s been several hours! The HVAC technician should’ve been here at 10 am but it’s 1 pm currently.

The HVAC company called me and said he is stuck on another job working on someone’s broken furnace.

This doesn’t help me though. I have plans and need to prepare for my wife’s surprise party. I never have any problems with the heating and cooling company but today is very important that I’m on schedule and so far I’m behind. I called her sister so I do have someone making sure we are good but I still want to be involved with this party as much as possible. Her sister was supposed to take her out for dinner and a movie but with the HVAC technician running late she canceled on my wife. The reason she canceled is that she is making sure the surprise party is all set up since I can’t get there unfortunately. So now I have to come up with some other way to get her out. I might have to call my mom and see if she can do something with her. I feel I should reschedule because this is just a maintenance visit but who knows maybe it will break down tomorrow and I would be more upset if I didn’t have the heating and technician come out today. I keep staring out the window hoping to see the HVAC van pull into my driveway or see it driving down my road. I’m starting to pace but then all of a sudden I hear my doorbell go off. He’s here and I’m glad I waited. Let’s make this a quick visit I ask.

Sometimes I go camping with friends.

The nights sitting around a campfire can be relaxing just talking to friends and staring into the fire.

I can say many times I will completely zone out on the fire thinking about random thoughts. Like how life would be different if a caveman had an actual heater? Not a firepit of twigs, wood and I’m guessing animal parts. Maybe after a long day of walking around in the wilderness hunting or berrypicking they could just come back to their cave and rest their feet which were probably filthy on a stone with a heater vent pouring warmth over their head. This to some seems impossible because electricity didn’t exist. I continue to think how can said cavemen get his hands on something that can do the same effect. Only thing I can think about is eventually they created a fireplace but I’m sure the rocks were just thrown everywhere and it was just awful placement. I think my anxiety is building up thinking about how disorganized they would be. I kind of wish I was home right now with my feet on my heated floors pondering this stuff. There is a little breeze kicking up that is a bit chilly so I know I won’t be outside long. What if cavemen had heated floors? I have to stop thinking about this stuff as I’m going to try and make this make sense but there is no way. I heard my friend John ask me a question and obviously I wasn’t listening because my brain is in the stone age currently. I nodded to him agreeing. He then said alright go gather more wood. I should’ve been paying attention. Now I am the caveman.

This summer has been grueling.

I don’t usually go outside as I like to stay in my house and play video games from friends across the U.S.

It’s been different since moving to the southern part of the U.S. for work. It is definitely more beautiful outside but like I said I stay in. I work for an electronics company so even then I stay inside. I work about 50-60 hours a week in a nice central air conditioned department. It’s a wonderful place for sure. I on the other hand don’t have a working air conditioner at home since it broke right at the end of last summer. So I like working even though I don’t need to work that many hours. I still barely can afford to do things. My mortgage is through the roof so I just work extra for emergencies. Talking about emergencies I probably should pay for a HVAC technician to look at my air conditioner unit. It is so hot in my place. On the other hand the newest gaming console is coming out and all my buddies are moving onto the next generation console. I probably should put priorities straight because very soon sleeping at night will be a no go. I do take cold showers before bed and that helps a bit but I wake up in the middle of the night sweating at times. I’m lucky to have a breeze come through the window to help but that is rare. I don’t know what to do, make the smart choice or the gaming choice?

I can be very annoying at times.

• My friend Steve has just started up his own HVAC company and is trying to get the word out there through social media and other various things.

He said if I can get him customers he will give me 5 percent of whatever the customer is charged. So everyday out of randomness in a grocery store, in the park, at a sporting event or wherever am that is populated I will say in my normal tone of voice “my buddy has a heating and cooling business.” It is so random as well and here and there someone will ask about it. I have pulled him in a few customers and the word of mouth approach I have taken has some success. I also hang little flyers around. I know I have a few at various grocery stores that have pinboards up. Since summer is coming up Steve new customers are looking for their air conditioning units to be serviced or some want to get central air installed. Steve also has some people setting up appointments for the fall to get their furnace checked out before the cold winter. I’m hoping if his business gains more traction that 5 percent will eventually move up to like 10-20 percent. I know what I do can be annoying to some but it’s working. I know Steve already told me that he will install central air conditioning in my home or heated floors if he hits his income goal for the business. He won’t share those details unfortunately but it would be cool to do a little upgrade to my place.

Again stuck in a traffic jam.

These long trips to work should only last 25 minutes but with traffic to and from work lasts about 50 minutes to an hour.

I sometimes just lose my mind while waiting. I start creating scenarios in my mind, ideas or just random thoughts. Like for example how did people survive without air conditioning? Today is 84 degrees and if I was home sitting on my couch after mowing the lawn I’d feel absolutely awful. I mean yeah I’ll still take a cold shower after but having central air conditioning I feel is a must in today’s life. Like way back in the Egyptian days they had Pharaohs as leaders but they didn’t have air conditioning, they didn’t have to worry about some a/c serviceman doing his yearly air conditioner service plan that the Pharaoh signed up for. You know what they had? They had some scrawny looking dude called the “fan-bearer” known as the shuwt doing his hardest trying to make sure the Pharaoh was cool enough to survive 84 degree weather. That scrawny guy probably became jacked with huge muscles after a couple months. I’m sure the Pharaoh had someone else takeover before that happened because those muscles I can only assume are pretty dangerous. What if the Pharaoh went to the beach to catch some sun, does he take his portable shuwt with him? I know there is no smart thermostat back on his throne so does he send the shuwt back early and say to fan his throne for a few minutes before he gets back? It’s kind of funny to think about. Pharaohs missed out big time on central air conditioning but at least they don’t have to worry about air conditioning repair costs.

After talking to 3 different people about my furnace, I still didn’t have any proposal what was wrong with it… My wifey kept telling myself and others to call the HVAC supplier, but I didn’t want to have to spend money for a diagnosis… I knew what they were going to tell me, but they were going to say that I had to buy a up-to-date furnace! When they were here to do the inspection plus cleaning, I was told I needed a up-to-date furnace.

I have been putting it off because I can’t afford a up-to-date furnace.

My credit is shot, plus I can’t afford to even ask the HVAC supplier to give myself and others a payment plan. I was hoping I could find someone in my city who knew something about the furnace plus could help myself and others out. I’m wondering if people weren’t tiring of myself and others asking for free help. I had to ask multiple people before a single of them would even come to the house. When I mentioned problems with the furnace, even he walked out, plus he was my brother… He told myself and others to quit squandering my currency plus take care of the beach house plus my family. I didn’t know I squandered currency. I worked, plus I had the right to buy what I wanted with it. I spent a little too much on toys, but that isn’t a crime. When my wifey asked myself and others for currency for groceries because the freezer was empty, I wondered if my brother wasn’t right. I needed a up-to-date furnace, plus I needed to buy a single. I called the HVAC supplier right after handing my debit card to my wifey.

There wasn’t any maintenance he couldn’t make, in addition to he always did charming work. I heard no one complain about him, in addition to when he moved, I got a lot of iphone calls. Anyone who knew I was his sibling wanted to recognize why he was no longer laboring as an Heating, Ventilation in addition to A/C worker. All I could tell them was that he had some locale else to be. When he got married, he in addition to his wifey moved to her beach apartment state.
