I had to recently search for a commercial roofing company when I discovered a leak in the workshop, however the leak isn’tawful plus I could maintenance it on my own, although I was thinking about replacing the entire roof with something much more energy efficient. I found several unusual commercial roofing companies online, however one company in certain had a website that stuck out in my mind. The website was certainly straight-forward to use plus there was a lot of information. I read a lot about the repairs plus unusual replacement possibilities plus that gave me the occasion to feel about things before I contacted the commercial roofing company to make my decision. I have lived in this house for years, but only recently did I decide to start my first home improvement project.

Mostly this came from boredom, and a desire to see if I could do it.

I am not very handy when it comes to home repair. I thought I should start off with something easy, so my target was the workshed in the backyard. It is very old and dingy, but the bones of the structure are strong, so I wanted to refurbish it and turn it into a usable space. I knew that I wanted a sturdier floor, a stronger roof, and a portable HVAC system to provide heating and cooling. I decided to start with the air conditioner, because it would help me complete the other tasks. Also it was the easier part of the renovation. This is a shed, not a mansion. It doesn’t need a central HVAC system with ductwork and air vents, it just needs a portable cooling unit. I did some comparison shopping and found the AC with the highest SEER rating for the lowest price. Once the A/C was in the shed I got to remain nice and cool while I worked on laying down a new floor, and then patching up the ceiling. Once I was done the dingy old workshed looked as good as new, and with such excellent air conditioning I decided to make it my new Man Cave. I don’t know exactly what I will do out in my Man Cave, but I know that I will enjoy excellent air quality while I do it.

There are always problems when you move into a new house.

When I say “new” I mean “a new place to call home” not that the building was recently constructed. This house is over 40 years old, but I still think of it as my new house. When a place is this old, there are a wide variety of little problems. Since this building had been empty for almost a decade, I knew there would be a lot of dampness, mildew, and possibly even insect or animal infestations. I thought that part would be easy, but I was very wrong. The squirrels had been living in the ductwork of the house for almost ten years, and they had no desire to leave. I had to call in an expert for some advice, because I didn’t want to spray poison and end up with air ducts filled with rotting animals. It took the Animal Control expert almost a week to get the ductwork clear of animals, at which point I contacted the local contractor about sending in a team. The entire air duct system would have to be scrubbed and sterilized, because who knows how much filth and disease lay inside those ducts? It turns out that no amount of cleaning or fertilizing could save the air ducts, they were too badly damaged from so many years of infestation. I had to get the old ducts removed, and have all-new ductwork installed, which took a while and was shockingly costly. From here on out I will be diligent about cleaning and taking care of my ductwork.

For that reason, I studied nursing and now work at a senior person’s home taking care of senior citizens.

It is not always laughter and joy at the nursing home. When we lose a patient, we painfully mourn them even if we know death is inevitable. Claire’s story is a sad but triumphant one.

Despite what she has gone through, I’m always touched and proud of the person she has become.
