It’s ironic that I now find a lot of comfort at home, whereas I used to have to struggle to get any when it came to heating and cooling.

I was the only guy in the house, so that was the reason for this.

And apparently, I don’t have the same internal thermostat as the women I live with. I suppose that compared to the rest of my family, I simply run much hotter. I constantly try to lower the thermostat setting during this time of year to reduce the cost of heating the house. I do, however, frequently hear it from the rest of the family. They all notice when I adjust the thermostat during the winter, even by a small amount. Alternatively, I might hear someone yell that the gas furnace will shut off the moment I lower the thermostat setting. However, things have changed significantly now that I have my own HVAC system. No, I don’t live alone anymore, but I do now that I’ve been married for so long. I believe the pandemic taught me that if I want to live to see the girls off to college, dad needs to have his own space. Therefore, my friend and I spent a few months converting a portion of the basement. Now, this area includes amenities like walls, a door, a big-screen TV, and a ductless heat pump. Actually, it’s a pretty cool place to hang out in a lounge. Furthermore, I can get all the high-quality heating and air I need on my terms thanks to my personal ductless heat pump.

I’ve had a difficult winter, and I think we’re at a turning point in terms of deciding where to live.

The old home place had a lot of added value because we upgraded the HVAC system and installed a new roof.

And when our primary investment finally paid off, we were very happy. When it came to retiring, my husband and I have always hoped that our house would be the deciding factor. But thankfully, this rental home’s new residential HVAC system has kept me comfortably warm. Undoubtedly, it has been wonderful to relax in my warm, comfortable home. I’m also appreciative that the heating expenses today are much lower than what I used to pay for that large house. I believe that the fact that this injury was brought on by snow may be all we need to relocate to the south, where there is plenty of air conditioning in place of all this heating.

I was able to fix the air conditioning myself last summer when it froze up.

This was a huge deal for me, since I have never really been able to fix anything myself in my entire life.

I have never been what you would call a handy kind of guy. I don’t even know how to change a lightbulb or unclog a drain. It’s just not something that I am gifted with, for some reason. I know a lot of other things, though. For instance, I’m super smart when it comes to computers and vocabulary words. I’m just not good at fixing things in real life! Anyway, last summer we had a record heat wave around where I live. The temperature was up in the triple digits and it literally never gets that hot around here! People were calling their HVAC companies right and left because they couldn’t get their air conditioning systems to keep up with the demand that the temperature was placing on them. I had my own problems at my house when I realized that the temperature in the house was going up instead of down when I had the A/C running. Apparently, I had the air conditioning on for so long that all of the condensation caused it to freeze up somehow! I turned the whole thing off for a while because I thought it made sense to let it thaw out. Even though I got really hot and uncomfortable during the time that I left it turned off, when I turned it back on, it started working again!

My brother really thinks that he is the best HVAC technician in the world.

I guess somewhere along the line, someone told him that he was fantastic.

I am not saying that he is not a good HVAC technician; don’t get me wrong. I know that he knows a whole lot about furnaces and air conditioning systems. I just don’t think that he is the greatest one in all the world like he thinks that he is. My brother has always had issues with feeling like he is better than everyone else. Even when we were kids, he always liked to act like he was number one at everything. We used to fight about it but eventually I just gave up and let him think that about himself. My brother has a lot of issues, but lacking confidence is not one of them!I was surprised that he did not run for president or something like that because he thinks so highly of himself. Anyway he ended up going to our local technical school to get his HVAC certification, and so now he is the best HVAC technician in the state. Well, at least he is the best HVAC technician in the state according to himself! He really drives me crazy sometimes, that’s for sure. I hope that they never give out awards or anything at the HVAC company where he works. If he ends up winning something, then there will just be no living with him from then on. I mean, I’m proud of him, but he makes that difficult.

I have lived in this home for years, however only recently did I decide to start my first current home improvement project, however mostly this came from boredom, plus a desire to see if I could do it.

I am not undoubtedly handy when it comes to current home repair. I thought I should start off with something easy, so my target was the workshed in the backyard. The entire air duct plan would have to be scrubbed and sterilized, because who knows how much filth and disease sit inside those ducts? It turns out that no amount of cleaning or fertilizing could save the air ducts, they were too badly destructiond from so numerous years of infestation. I had to get the outdated ducts dislinkd, and have all-new ductwork installed, which took a while and was shockingly extravagant, and from here on out I will be diligent about cleaning and taking care of our ductwork.

I was recently waiting for a flight at the local international airport.

It was going to be a fast trip: just an hour flight to hop a few states over.

I was going to a sizable conference for my job. It’s an annual conference that I’ve come to enjoy, simply because it means about 6 days of traveling and generally relaxing at a hotel. Sure, there are meetings and seminars to go to, however it breaks up the workflow, and is actually quite a stressless time for me. Plus, I care far more about the local attractions and eating establishments, which I often find time for despite the meeting schedules that I have to adhere to. There was another reason why I was glad that the conference finally came this year. My home recently lost use of its Heating & Air Conditioning system. I do not have the cash to repair it right now, so I spent the last few afternoons covered in sweat in bed trying to sleep as best as I could. Of course, I used as many fans as I could fit around my bed, however it’s not quite the same as having a cooling system. Anyway, at the airport terminal, it felt so breezy and cool. It was making me sleepy as I was waiting for my flight. I had to fight to keep my eyes open. When I eventually boarded my flight, it was really quite cool and comfortable in the airplane as well. Maybe the terminal and the plane just felt like being spoiled after spending the past few afternoons at my hot house!

So, for now, I opted to buy a dehumidifier instead. However, after using it for a bit, I said that it wasn’t working the way I thought it would. My friend asked me how long it had been since I turned it on. I said it had been about 6 hours. Something told him that a dehumidifier takes longer than that to show results. He looked it up for me and he found that a dehumidifier really won’t accomplish any noticeable change in the humidity levels until about 12 hours in. My friend told me as much, and I decided to be patient.
