Air conditioning savings prep begins now

That means we wait until well into May before we leave the air conditioning on all the time

It’s not going to be much longer until my car is covered in pollen. Where I live, our mild winter ends with an early spring. It’s just the beginning of February but I’m already seeing signs of the change over to warmer weather. Of course, I’m sure not complaining about the temperatures I’ve enjoyed all winter. These sort of temperatures keep the heat pump silent and our windows open. That’s the only sort of winter I really can imagine. I tried a couple of winters up north with a gas furnace running basically non-stop and it was terrible. So I’m more than happy to be back in the land where the heat pump is king. It’s nice to be able to depend on one piece of HVAC technology for our heating and cooling comfort. That said, there really isn’t that much need for heating. And that cooling side of things is about to get ramped up. That’s why I take this time of year to get myself squared away when it comes to air conditioning costs. I start by calling the HVAC company to come do the air conditioning tune up. And then, it’s all about preparing the house and our mindset. In our house, we reduce the demand for cooling by acclimating to the heat and humidity. That means we wait until well into May before we leave the air conditioning on all the time. But I also make sure that house is sealed up tight to maximize the efficiency of the HVAC equipment. It won’t be long now before the temperatures are staying in the 80’s and the trees and flowers start doing their thing.
