The workday today is going by slowly as I struggle to write due to my blurry vision.

This afternoon, as I was returning from the beach, my vision was not blurred enough for me to miss this really lovely woman walking by. It is amazing how a woman’s beauty can both enthrall and disturb you. I’m still working on getting rid of the image of her so that I can resume my work, but it is ingrained in my mind and will likely stay there for some time. In order to calm my mind and return to my work, I must spend hours writing about heating and air conditioning. This does the trick for getting rid of the image of the attractive woman in my head. I’ll just let her go from my memory because I can’t daydream about her and try to write these stories well at the same time. That way, I can resume my work as the diligent worker that I am. Who knows, maybe one day she’ll visit the Heating and Air Conditioning company looking for a HEPA filter or something, but since she is way above my pay grade, I don’t have to worry about anything transpiring from that meeting. Additionally, if we were dating, I would be a constant ball of anxiety, fearing that she would dump me for someone better. Even if I never again see that lovely ghost, I’ll just carry on with my work at the neighborhood corporation and life will go on. Anyway, I’m going to get something to eat and then my friend and I will catch up in another story.

I’ve been suffering from this flu-like illness for a few afternoons now, and as I type, I can see that my vision is blurrier than usual.

I believe it is caused by this virus, and I’m hoping that once it is gone, the blurriness will go away.

Despite the fact that I also have astigmatism in my right eye, it is much worse than my left eye, so perhaps the flu I am currently experiencing is contributing. I hope that’s the case and that my vision hasn’t gotten noticeably worse over the past few afternoons of my life; if it has, then my next step will be to visit the nearby corporation to have my eye health checked. Due to teeth issues, I also need to have my teeth examined. I need to start taking better care of myself and slowing down a bit so that my body doesn’t wear out, as my heating tech neighbor advised me. Given how badly I treated this body and the numerous skydiving landing accidents I had while swooping for a career, I’m truly surprised it is still alive and well at 56 years old. If you don’t know what swooping is, take a look on YouTube and you’ll understand why my body has a lot of miles on it. The local supplier was also a swooper and died in a swooping accident. My good friend and I used to swoop on land as well as on the water, which is where the pain from rough landings came from. I have stopped swooping and now only do repairs and maintenance for heating and air conditioning systems.

I was so hungry last night as I tried to go to sleep, but I refrained from eating because my throat was hurting so badly. I gave in at some point and ate a banana, which, because I chewed it thoroughly, didn’t seem to bother my throat as much. I was able to fall asleep once more after that and sleep for the next several hours. I believe I slept for around nine hours last night, and today I feel a little better, but my throat still hurts and I’m also pretty exhausted. Despite not knowing if I will be well enough for her to stay here in my climate-controlled apartment without running the risk of contracting my illness, I should be feeling better for my heating and air conditioning technician to visit this weekend. In order to save her from having to stay in this dirty apartment, I think I will invite her to come for a visit but suggest that she book a room at a hotel close to my house. All I can do is try to stay quarantined and away from my cooling rep roommate for the next few afternoons while I am contagious because I will feel really awful if she does. I just hope that she doesn’t catch what I have because I will feel awful. To avoid being around her too much, I spend the majority of my time in my office working. This strategy appears to be working so far, as she is still feeling fine. I am taking some good kefir that I got from the neighborhood business to help me fight this.

Since I haven’t been sick in a while, I am aware that getting the flu or whatever illness I currently have was both a necessary purging and a test of my immunity.

Last weekend, I overexerted myself, and I believe that’s how I caught this nasty bug I currently have.

This makes me thankful for my health because being ill is not only unpleasant, but it also saps your energy and leaves you feeling lifeless. I usually have a lot of energy, and I believe that this cold will cause me to change some aspects of my life. My cooling representative advised me to stop drinking Budweiser for a while to let my immune system strengthen, and I believe I will take her advice and stop for a while in order to concentrate on my work as a heating and air conditioning technician. I don’t drink that much, but I’ve noticed that I’m drinking more now than I was a few years ago. It’s time to break the habit and stop drinking altogether. However, working on HVAC ducts can be exhausting, especially in the summer when it’s extremely chilly outside. Hangovers from drinking don’t help the situation and also make your Heating and Air Conditioning labor that much more unpleasant. I believe that this cold was essential in assisting me in making changes in my life that have made them better than they were before. Everything happens for a reason, the old HEPA filter worker would say, and my friend and I should always strive to improve ourselves in the process.

With this flu bug I have, I’m just now waking up and getting my day started.

• Because I have the entire day to devote to this work and have little energy left over to do anything else, it is actually a little bit simpler.

When my eyes begin to tire, I can take breaks or just work slowly until the task is finished by evening. I work when I want because I have a flexible schedule, so I can just keep working and everything will get done eventually. Indoor air quality is my main concern with this flu because I don’t want the germs to get into my flatmate’s room and make her sick. Therefore, I keep my entire cabin air purifying system running constantly and am hoping that the HEPA filter in it will remove any unpleasant things in the air so they don’t get into her room. Keeping germs to a minimum is my top priority as I work to get rid of this cold because that is the worst—getting sick and then passing it on to your partner or roommate. In three afternoons, the owner of my cooling and heating company is supposed to pay me a visit, so I’m hoping I’ll feel better in time for him to come over so my friend and I can hang out for a couple of afternoons. Let’s see how resilient my immune system is and if it can help me recover in time for a visit from a really good friend. Now I’ll wash my HEPA filter once more.

This afternoon, my stock gave me a pleasant surprise when I woke up; it had previously made $850, but is now only worth $485. Don’t be overly jealous because it’s all just a show and it still doesn’t change the fact that I am losing $100K. Who knows what this car supplier will ultimately do, but at least they were able to increase production thanks to a $100 million loan they received today. Perhaps this marks the beginning of my recovery. If the supplier is successful, it will specifically take me two or three years to make up that money. Working as a heating and air conditioning technician for the supplier in my town will be on the agenda up until then, though. I don’t need the money right now, so I am okay with working for a few more years and waiting for this investment to start paying off. Even though I have the flu and a pretty high fever and was kept comfortable last night by my mini split air conditioner, I still felt uncomfortably hot. I’m trying to get rid of this illness by sleeping about 12 hours every night, and I have four more afternoons to recover before my neighbor arrives. If I get better in four or so afternoons, she will come visit me. She works for a cooling company, is attending a convention for heating and air conditioning in another town, and is a cooling company. I’ve had this thing for three afternoons now, and I can feel it moving around inside of me as my body fights to get rid of it.

I’ll finish this article and then retire to my room for a while. My grandfather used to refer to it when she took an hour-long nap during the day and then, on occasion, went to bed at 7 o’clock in order to get a good night’s rest. I’ll tell you right now that lady loved to sleep, but what a cool life she had in the end with her lake cabin and numerous parties and fun. She kept a house on the lake and fished almost every day, giving the family more than enough fried fish for breakfast. My grandmother worked in the cooling industry when she was younger. She retired at the age of 54 as an HVAC rep and enjoyed retirement for 35 years before passing away at the age of 89. She had six children and a ton of friends who regularly came to visit him, which made me wonder if I am living the right life without having children. I sing and play the drums in a band, and if I had to work full-time while also taking care of a large family, I don’t think I would have the time or energy to do either of those things. As my body tries to rid itself of the flu infection I have, I’m experiencing waves of energy.

I’ll go through periods of extreme exhaustion, followed by bursts of energy, and I’ll want to climb into bed and stay there for hours. Fortunately, I don’t have to work for 10 hours at some office job and suffer with this cold while I stare at the clock hoping for 6pm. Instead, I can write two more articles and then take a nap to recharge before doing the final 30 minutes of labor for the day. Back in the day, when I was an engineer working for this sizable Heating and Air Conditioning supplier, my desk job was manufacturing air conditioner and heating systems. I was making a lot of money, but I didn’t like spending my days in a cubicle staring at texts and writing reports even though I was making a lot of money. In spite of the fact that I’d rather let someone else do the work so I can be independent and free, heating and cooling systems are a necessity in this world. In order to pursue my careers in comedy and music, I moved abroad a few years ago, and I’ve never looked back. Even though I can’t hold on to my Dad for ever and I need to live my own life because she will pass away one day, I just miss her gas fireplace and hanging out with my friend and talking about life while I miss my dad and her. I know I will eventually learn to live without her, but that is still going to be a hard pill to swallow. You’ll succeed, I hope.

Given that I’m feeling a little under the weather and am having trouble moving forward, I need to gather the strength to finish these stories today.

However, I’ll manage to complete them somehow so that my friend and I can relax on my sofa and disappear into the pillows.

It has been difficult for me to eat anything due to my sore throat, so I just ate some soup with pasta. I also feel a little better having some food in my body. My buddy and I will be able to relax the rest of the day and play with my cats if we feel like it after I finish working on the heating and cooling system stories, which should take me no more than an hour at most. Due to the fact that my body is actually sore and because it would benefit my muscles and joints to move around a little, I also have to complete my 15-minute yoga routine. Today is Tuesday, and by Sunday I believe I will be almost 100% again, even though I need to rest a lot to make that happen as my body needs energy to fight this cold. Yesterday, I skipped my yoga class in favor of a trip to the local pharmacy to get some medication to help me get through this illness. In order for my friend and I to work on my heating and air conditioning system and get it ready for the upcoming summer, I need to be better by Sunday because a neighbor who works for a cooling company is coming to see me. I won’t be using the unit all day long soon because the weather is getting warmer.

My dad was out of this world.

When describing how something is used or shot, my father used to say, “totally rinsed.” She would say, “Ahh, I’m totally rinsed,” for example, if she had just finished a long day of water skiing or if someone was acting irrationally. You never hear that, and I am not sure where the saying originated, though I am certain that I will never discover its origin because my father passed away two years ago and the secret is sealed away for all time. Nevertheless, you are welcome to use the saying if you like. Cleaning the heating and cooling systems is what I’ll be working on today, and I’m confident that by the time I get back to the cabin after a long day of work on the heater, I’ll be completely clean as well. I still find it difficult to believe that my pops will never return, but I will eventually have to accept the fact that death is a fact of life. She spent the majority of her working life in the heating industry, where she performed numerous boiler tune-ups over the years and built a very prosperous business. Since making music and playing for audiences truly brings me great joy, I am glad I made the decision to become a musician. Who knows where it will lead me, but I’m sure it will be more rewarding than spending the day cleaning HVAC ducts for the cooling corporation, which is what I was doing in the back cabin before switching to music.

Geothermal heat pumps continue to become more popular as a residential heating and cooling solution. The cost of these innovative systems has come down a bit in recent years, and there are federal and state tax incentives that help with affordability. While the investment is still considerably higher than implementing a more conventional alternative, a geothermal unit typically recovers the cost in under five years. Even if the outdoor temperature drops below freezing, the underground temperature remains constant. The system utilizes an underground loop that absorbs the heat and transfers it by way of a liquid or refrigerant into the home. There is no combustion process, which eliminates concerns with carbon monoxide and other greenhouse gasses. The heat pump creates no fumes, has no hot surfaces and won’t dry out of the indoor air. In cooling mode, the system acts just like a traditional air conditioner and draws heat out of the indoor environment. Geothermal heat pumps are especially effective at dehumidification. Operation is safe, clean, quiet and wonderfully environmentally responsible. The EPA lists geothermal systems as the most environmentally responsible choice on the market. Because the heat pump is installed inside the home and protected from the weather, it can be expected to last upwards of twenty years. The underground loop is warrantied for fifty years and should provide a lifespan of twice that.

When I first started shopping for a new thermostat, I had no idea there were so many options on the market.

There are modern thermostats available in a variety of different shapes, sizes and styles.

Although smart thermostats are quite a bit more expensive than a programmable option, I wanted to take advantage of the added conveniences. It’s helpful to be able to make adjustments from virtually anywhere. Whether I’m at work, at one of my kids’ sporting events, out to dinner or tucked into bed, it’s easy to raise or lower temperature. I also have easy access to a wealth of information and features. The device sends me alerts if there is a power outage or a sudden indoor temperature fluctuation. It reminds me to schedule seasonal maintenance for the furnace and air conditioner and to change air filters. If there is a problem with performance, the thermostat contacts the HVAC contractor directly and allows remote diagnosis. I can also track household energy usage and get tips for improvement. I chose a thermostat with learning capacity. For the first week following installation, the device kept track of our every adjustment and then created a customized schedule. It now automatically raises or lowers temperature according to whether the house is occupied, empty or my family is awake or asleep. It also handles the operation of our humidifier and displays the outdoor temperature and indoor humidity levels. It lights up whenever I walk up to it and will respond to voice commands.
